Like many others I grew up watching Bob Ross.  One of his favorite sayings was "there are no mistakes here, just happy accidents.  You can learn to work with anything that happens here."  For me this is the true joy of art.  Does the line you just drew not do exactly what you had in mind?  Take a minute, look at it and see if it has brought to light something you hadn't thought of before.  Perhaps its better than you originally intended.  So rarely does any picture of mine end up exactly as originally pictured in my mind, but the end result is something different or greater than I had planned.  Throughout our daily lives we adhere to the rules of the society we live in, and for good reasons.  But when it comes to art we are free to imagine and create, and perhaps create something better than we had set out to do.  For me this is the ultimate joy of creating.

“When all hope was gone, they heeded the counsels of despair. Had they continued to strive, defying their doom, some unforeseen wonder might have occurred. And if it did not, still their glory would have surpassed their failure.”

"Such is the irony of life," Kruppe proclaimed, raising one pastry-filled hand over his head, "that one learns to distrust the obvious, surrendering instead to insidious suspicion and confused conclusion. But, is Kruppe deceived? Can an eel swim? Hurrah, these seeming muddy waters are home to Kruppe, and his eyes are wide with wonder.”
― Steven Erikson, Gardens of the Moon

Just started Steven Erikson's Blood of the Moon, and I've got to say the first 3 chapters have the COOLEST depiction of mages on a battlefield I have ever read.  They remind me of an old fashioned 5000 points a side Warhammer game with the old rules where magic was still dominant.  If the rest of the series is like this I'll be thrilled.
